Claire Edgar presents domestic abuse training to The Voice of Migrant Women

07 March 2022

Our Family Law Partner, Claire Edgar recently presented a talk on family law at an event organised by The Voices of Migrant Women.

The Voices of Migrant Women is a programme established by Volunteer Now which supports early interventions to improve the lives of migrant women and girls within society.

In her talk, Claire outlined the legal protection available to women in Northern Ireland who are the victims of domestic abuse.  She also provided information on how our Court system works when navigating children’s proceedings regarding residence and contact

Claire commented:

“I was delighted to have been asked to provide training to The Voice of Migrant Women The programme’s advocacy support workers and volunteers provide an important role in supporting some of the most marginalised in our society.  There are a range of nationalities and cultures in Northern Ireland, and women play an integral role within these communities.  Migrant women in Northern Ireland can face cultural, social, legal and language barriers as well as economic insecurity which can leave many vulnerable to abuse and toxic relationships.   It is imperative that we do all we can to help protect migrant women from domestic abuse within our society and to support them to achieve their potential.”
