Francis Hanna & Co welcomes first Law Degree Apprentices

29 September 2025

We are delighted to welcome Naomi Gordon and Peter McErlean to our team as Law Degree Apprentices under the new Ulster University scheme.

The four-year course allows apprentices to work four days a week in an approved legal practice and study at the university one day a week.

The course is fully funded by the Department for the Economy and leads to a qualifying law degree (QLD) recognised by the Law Society of Northern Ireland and other legal regulatory bodies.

With Francis Hanna & Co, Naomi and Peter will receive hands‑on experience in a breadth of practice areas working under the mentorship of experienced solicitors.

Karen Connolly, Partner in Francis Hanna & Co, said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Naomi and Peter on board. This apprenticeship route is a superb opportunity both for individuals entering the legal profession and for our firm.

“Having young apprentices working and training with us will bring fresh energy, new perspectives, and help ensure that the next generation of solicitors is equipped with both excellent academic training and real legal experience.”
