Laura shared with the students her journey on behalf of her client Siobhan McLaughlin, from identifying an unfairness in the bereavement benefits system, to taking the case to the High Court, Court of Appeal and ultimately succeeding at the UK Supreme Court. Laura Banks said “It was a pleasure to share the story of the case with the Students and hopefully encourage and inspire them to bring their own test cases in the area of public interest litigation. It was a very productive session with lots of interesting and thoughtful engagement from the students.” Ciaran White, Senior Lecturer in Law said “We are very grateful to Laura for addressing the students on her landmark Supreme Court case and providing practical knowledge, inspiring the next generation of lawyers.” For any public interest litigation enquiry, contact Laura Banks on 028 9024 3901.
