In recent years, the number of people living in private rental accommodation in Northern Ireland has grown significantly.  As a result, we are increasingly being asked to provide advice to both landlords and tenants who are preparing to enter into a private tenancy agreement and also those who have already entered into such an agreement.

The law surrounding this area centres mainly around two pieces of legislation.  If a tenancy has been created before 1st April 2007 then it is governed by the Rent Order (NI) 1978.  All tenancies created on or after 1st April 2007 are governed by The Private Tenancies (NI) Order 2006.  We have experience in advising both landlord and tenant in relation to issues surrounding:-
